A Selection Of Water Sports.
Many people enjoy taking up a water sport for the many benefits it gives them. It’s an adrenaline rush for anyone who enjoys moving at full throttle, it’s healthy as any surfer’s beach body will tell you, and it’s a great chance to get some sun which has more benefits than just the tan. Furthermore it’s a great chance to see some wonderful locations and take in some great sites and photos. But of all the water sports which one to choose and where to start? Here we’ll examine a few of the options.
Water skiing:Water skiing is one of the best known water sports, and is great for adrenaline junkies who enjoy the rush of speeding along the water on a pair of water skis and doing jumps and tricks. It takes a while to master and requires a few purchases in terms of fat sacks, skis, shoes etc, but once you learn it’s great fun and very rewarding. At the same time it requires great core strength, and coordination and can help teach you those things.
Windsurfing: Windsurfing is slightly slower paced, and is essentially surfing with a sail attached, which then carries you along by the strength of the wind. Of course this can only be done under certain weather conditions, and is also quite tricky to learn and set up. However, in comparison to faster paced water sports such as water skiing and wake boarding it can feel a bit slow.
Jet skiing: Jet skiing is distinct from water skiing in that you don’t go on skis behind a vehicle, but rather the vehicle itself is on skis and the individual then simply rides it. This requires less balance and you can go at faster speeds. However, unless you are doing a course it needs less skill’ as such. Furthermore it necessitates the purchase of a jet ski, or the regular renting of one, neither of which is cheap.
Wake boarding: Wake boarding is similar to water skiing except you use a board as opposed to skis. In this way it is to water skiing what snowboarding is to skiing. This is slightly easier to balance due to the more evenly distributed pressure, but also allows for a greater number of tricks and sharper turning. It is so named as when you wake board the idea is for the board to ride the wake’ of the boat (improved through the use of fat sacks to weigh down the boat).
Surfing: Surfing’s popularity comes largely from how easy and accessible it is to begin. All you need to start surfing is the board itself, and that means you can do it anywhere though it is dependent on waves, and for those who like a faster pace and a longer ride it will pale compared to wake boarding or water skiing.
Barefoot water skiing: Barefoot water skiing is an interesting spin on the usual water skiing in that it is – you guessed it – bare-footed. Barefoot water skiing this way slightly increases the challenge and also means you require less equipment, just the boat and the rope. And despite the lack of skis or boards, you can still pull off a number of exciting tricks and jumps.
